Mary Louise Hoefling, 59, of Murray died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Alegent Midlands Community Hospital in Papillion.

She was born April 1, 1948, in Wagner, S.D., to Carl and Maxine (Scott) VanderVeen.

On March 27, 1977, she married Larry C. Hoefling in Union.

As a young child, the VanderVeen family moved to Plattsmouth where Mary attended Plattsmouth High School. She then worked in Nebraska City and had lived in Oklahoma for a short time. Returning to Plattsmouth, she was the owner of The Corner Bar in Plattsmouth for 26 years. Larry died in May of 1998. Mary sold the bar and retired in September 2004. She moved to an acreage south of Murray with Jack, where she was living at the time of her death.

Survivors include her life partner, Jack Steinback, Murray; daughter, Mary Francis Jones, Plattsmouth; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine "Sandy" and Elmer Henderson, Union; brother and sister-in-law, John and Karen VanderVeen, Union; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Larry VanderVeen and Carl VanderVeen Jr.; and sister, Patricia VanderVeen.

Funeral service was 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Roby Funeral Home Chapel, Plattsmouth, with Pastor Michael McGregor officiating. Pallbearers were Ed Anderson, Ron Ballinger, Randy Dennis, Henry Jachimek, Rich Ketchum and Randy Winters.

Honorary pallbearer was Rick Kaffenberger.

She was buried in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa.
