Dick was the 5th child, 2nd son, of Oscar Ferdinand Zimmer and Lola Mae Casey, born and raised on the west side of Columbus, Ohio. He enlisted in the navy as a young man, determined to be a fighter pilot during the war. Less than perfect eyesight prevented him from becoming a pilot. After his service, he attended and graduated from Ohio State University using the GI Bill. In 1949, he married Marie Granger and they raised their 4 children together.
Dick spent most of his career in cash register and computer sales with National Cash Register. He had various territories in Ohio before managing sales in Central and South America. He retired in Tallahassee Florida and spent his retirement years golfing.
He died on January 26, one day before his 72nd birthday. His cremains were spread by the family at a location of his request.
