Robert "Bob" Abbott was born on January 17, 1949, son of Lowell D. and June Ann (Newton) Abbott in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended school and graduated from high school in Moorhead, MN. He furthered his education, graduating from Moorhead State University in 1972. Bob was united in marriage to Pat Vangstad on September 14, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran church in Moorhead. To this union, three children were born. Bob was an employee of 3M in Alexandria since 1994. He also had worked for Alexandria Appraisals as a real estate appraiser for about 20 years.
Bob enjoyed spending time with friends. He was an avid car collector, collected stamps, and he had a collection of 45's records. He loved dancing, water-skiing and camping.
Bob died on July 22, 2001 at the age of 52. He is survived by his mother June Abbott of Alexandria, father Lowell Abbott of Moorhead; son Brian (Kristin) Abbot of Lincoln, NE; daughters Sara Abbott of Alexandria, Beth (Jeff) Rogers of Alexandria; and the children's mother Pat Abbott of Alexandria; one grandchild; and aunts and uncles.
A funeral service was held on July 26, 2001, at the Lake Community Church, with Pastor Mark Schmitke officiating. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevan Kiland, Delmore Gustafson, Dick (Old Man) Schnettler, John Garrett, David Christenson, and Reed Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Woods and Nancy Nelson.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
