CARRIE BENNETT AYERS, 91, of Cornelia, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ayers was born in Franklin County on Feb 13, 1909 and had been a Cornelia resident since 1942. She was a daughter of the late Jackson and Elizabeth Purcell Bennett and was preceded in death by her husband, James David Ayers, and a son, Roger Ayers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker and a member of Level Grove Baptist Church where she was active in church activities and had served as secretary of the Grace Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Habersham County Medical Center's Auxiliary.
Survivors include 7 daughters; 1 son; 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 pm Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Whitfield Funeral Home North Chapel. Rev. Terry Rice and Dr. Jimmy Whitlow will officiate. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
