He is the first child of Wopke DeHaan's second marriage, named for his maternal grandfather, Izaak van der Meer (1801 Rotterdam, NL -1889 Harrison, Douglas Co., SD).
On 20 March 1883 he married in Orange City, Sioux County, northwest Iowa, to the six years younger Jannetje Doorn, later on usually called Jennie DeHaan.
Isaac De Haan lived in 1910 with his wife Jennie and their children Annie and Isaac Jr. in Holland [Twp], Douglas County, in southeast South Dakota. In 1920 and 1930 he lived with Jennie in his birthtown, the Dutch settlement Pella in Marion County, in northwest Iowa. In 1940 housekeeper
Isic (!) De Haan, 81 y, lived with his wife Jennie, 77 y, still in Pella, Unionstreet 911, in an own home with a value of $5000.
