Myrtle Addington was born May 9, 1927 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Charles Umble and Daisy (Clark) Umble.
Myrtle attended school and worked on her family's farm, near Melcher-Dallas, as a young girl. On August 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Gerald Clinton Addington, Sr. in Melcher. To this union six children were born: Robert Wayne, Jerry, Jr. Richard Leroy, Shirley Ann, Nancy Elaine and Connie Sue. The couple first made their home in Colorado and several years later, they moved back to Melcher-Dallas. In her spare time, Myrtle enjoyed cooking for her family and reading the Bible. She was a devote member of the Apostolic Church in Knoxville.
Myrtle passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 85 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gerald in 1999.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Shirley (Ron) Crandall of Melcher-Dallas; Robert (Judy Ann) of Hamilton, New Zealand; Nancy (Stuart) Hall of Chariton; Jerry, Jr. (Lisa) of Knoxville; Richard of Melcher-Dallas; and Connie (Wayne) Hyden of Knoxville; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
