News reached Rockwell City [Iowa] Monday of the death of Mr. Joseph Fowlie, which occurred at Cherokee [Iowa] the evening before at the age of 80 years. Deceased was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. In early manhood he came to this country, locating in Illinois. Later he came to Calhoun County and was well known here. About nineteen years ago he was adjudged insane and taken to Cherokee, where he remained until the time of his death. At the time the sad misfortune overtook him he was living on his farm south of town, now known as the Townsend place. He leaves one daughter to mourn his death, Miss Josephine Fowlie of this city.
[Note: Contrary to the published obituary, he was first taken to Independence Mental Hospital in 1890, then to Cherokee Hospital after it opened in 1902.
