Eunice M. Harrison, 96, died peacefully Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Colonial Oaks Memory Care Center in Houston surrounded by her loved ones. Born Eunice Matilda Shearer on January 8, 1915 in Bunker Hill, Kan., she was the daughter of Henrietta Slimm and Edward R. Shearer. The family relocated to St. Francis, Kan. where she grew up and married her high school sweetheart, Hubert (Herb) L. Harrison, in 1932 and together had three beautiful daughters. Throughout her life, Eunice worked in family owned businesses in St. Francis, Kan. and Lincoln, Neb., and was also employed at the Nebraska State Capital building. She also was a church organist, volunteered at the Bryan Memorial Hospital, and was a generational member of PEO. Hubert and Eunice retired to Houston, Texas to be near family.
Eunice was preceded in death by Hubert in 1994, and her four siblings, Walter Shearer, William "Bill" Shearer, Catherine Shearer Wilson, and Phillip Shearer. Eunice is survived by her daughter Janice D. Strange and husband David of Estes Park, Colo., daughter Brenda L. Banker and husband Jan of Houston, and daughter Cathy E. Harrison and partner Kristine Anderson of Blaine, Minn. Also surviving Mrs. Harrison are her eight loving grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and niece, Janie Shearer of Kansas City, Kan.
An intimate graveside service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be sent to Colonial Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care Employee Appreciation Fund at 11395 Richmond Avenue, Houston, TX 77082, attention Sherri Hale.
