Jack Harry Aldrich, age 90, passed away on December 31, 2014, at his home in Olympia, Washington, of natural causes, surrounded by his family with love and support. Shortly thereafter, exploding fireworks were heard in the neighborhood; a fitting tribute to a valiant man.

Jack was born on May 31, 1924, in Nampa, Idaho, to Harry Earl Aldrich and Sarah Elizabeth Carlow, the eighth of ten children. Growing up during the Depression shaped him into a hard-working, independent person. He was never idle and learned how to get on in the world through his many adventures as a young man.

Among his many jobs were salesman, projectionist, carpenter, and carnival performer. Despite partially losing two of his fingers at the age of eight, he joined the Army in WWII and served as a medic in Burma and India. He made the Army his career as an X-Ray Specialist. He retired a Sergeant after 22 years of living in exotic places like Japan and Okinawa, as
well as Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, California, and Utah.

After he retired, he worked as the head custodian in an elementary school, mined, owned a fast food franchise, and managed properties he owned.

Jack married Ferrol Thorley Stucki in 1943. They met at a dance where he was playing in the band. They had two children, Jack and Glenna. Life was busy with his pursuits and interests, which included his family, gardening, fishing, building a brick home for his family, and helping out his neighbors.

After his wife passed away, he lived in Spokane, Washington, with his daughter, and later, in Kelso, Washington with his son, and lastly in Olympia, Washington. Jack watched over his family and lived much longer than he was expected to. His mind was sharp right to the end of his life. He had many stories to tell his grandchildren and was a source of wisdom and twinkling humor.

He bore the infirmities of old age with patience and humor.

He was a member of the Lacey 4th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife; son and daughter; seven siblings; and a half brother and sister. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jerry; two sisters, Vivian Easter and Vernice Zanco; and brother, Don. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Brian (Mandi), Christine, Jason (Rose), Jennifer (James), Nathan (Mary), Robyn (Mark), Sandra (Christopher), Susan (Geoff); great grandchildren, Adam, Benjamin, Calvin, Cassandra, Danielle (Nick), Derek, Ethan, Forrest, Lily,
Maurine; and great- great grandchild, Beau.

Jack interred beside his wife in the Kaysville Cemetery, Kaysville, Utah.
