ONEONTA - Gerald Arthur Baker, 75, of Oneonta died Monday, June 13, 2005, at his residence.

He was born April 4, 1930, in Oneonta, the son of Cecil M. Baker Sr. and Leona Carpenter.

On July 29 , 1947, Gerald married Betty Jean Pearson at the Salvation Army in Oneonta.

He enjoyed racing stock cars in Morris, CB radios, working on televisions, playing softball and watching baseball and auto racing on television. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows in Oneonta.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Baker of Oneonta; his six children and their spouses, Diana and James Paton of Albany, Gary and Donna Baker, Doug and Marilyn Baker, Gerald and Kathy Baker, Lynn and Dawn Baker, all of Oneonta, and Wendy Morgan of Mount Vision; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters and their spouses, June Headley of Royal Palm Beach, Fla, Harvey and Edna Baker of East Worcester, the Rev. Floyd and Leona Baker Sr. of Summerville, S.C., Phyllis and Leo Sutherlin of Sidney, Major Robert and Ruth Baker of Lancaster, Pa., Linda Hart of Brandon, Fla., Cecil M. and Regina Baker Jr. of Oneonta, Dean and Judy Baker of Otego and Christina and John Flynn of Rantour, Ill.; one brother-in-law Larry Birt of Binghamton; two sisters-in-law, Anna Pearson of Oneonta and Rosalie James and her husband, Winfield, of Oneonta; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Cecil M. and Jean M. Baker Sr.; his mother, Leona Carpenter; two sons-in-law, Warren Platt and Bruce Morgan; one sister, Emaline Birt; one grandson, William Platt; one great-grandson, Tyler Carr; and one brother-in-law, Ivan Pearson.

A service to celebrate the life of Gerald Arthur Baker will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at the Oneonta Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta, with Major Robert Baker and the Rev. Floyd Baker Sr. officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oneonta Little League, PO Box 542, Oneonta, NY 13820, the Oneonta Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Oneonta Family Services, 277 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820, in loving memory of Gerald Arthur Baker.
