Enlisted in the Wisconsin 6th Light Artillery Battery on September 19, 1861. Killed in action on October 4, 1862 during the Second Battle of Corinth.Civil War casualty. Served in Co. H, WI 6th Cavalry. Killed in action at Corinth MS. He is buried at Corinth National Cemetery, Corinth, Acorn Co, Mississippi. Memorial inscription on monument at Mt. George W. BARNEY (1843-1862) enrolled as a private in the 6th Independent Battery, Wisconsin Light Artillery on 19 Sept. 1861 at Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin. He was killed in action in the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi on 4 October 1862. In 1867 his mother, Mary Ann (TRACEY) BARNEY HILL applied for a dependent parent's pension. His sister, Emily A. C. (BARNEY) DeCOURCY applied for a pension in 1884. His Mother's Pension File #Mo.C-268,674 contains a letter written by George BARNEY to his mother from Mississippi on 30 June 1862.
