John Kalb was born about 1733 in Limerick Township, Philadelphia County (now Montgomery County), Pennsylvania. He married Maria Elisabeth Müller at Augustus (Trappe) Evangelical Lutheran Church in Upper Providence Township, Philadelphia County (now Montgomery County), Pennsylvania, 18 July 1757. By 1788 John Kalb and family had moved to Emmits Town (now Emmitsburg) Frederick County, Maryland. After the death of his wife about 1800 he migrated West to Madison Township, Franklin County, Ohio with son, George Kalb and family. He was an early entryman in Franklin County, Ohio, purchasing 100 acres in the US Military District Survey, Refugee Lands and Congress Lands, on 1 August 1805. He died near Canal Winchester in Madison Township on 9 October 1815 at 82 years of age. His estate was settled in Franklin County.
