Stanford Horace Ellenberger
Gridley, Dec. 18 – Stanford H. Ellenberger, 48, civic leader and distributor for Phillips Petroleum Co., died at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's hospital Bloomington, after a long illness.
He had lived in Gridley since 1930 when he moved here from Rock Island.
Former district manager for the Illinois Oil Co., and the National Refining Co. before becoming Phillips distributor, he was active in civic affairs. He was former president of the Community club here, and was a member of the town board, school board, Sportsman's club and the Forest City Baptist church.
He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan university and was a past master of the Gridley Masonic lodge.
Born June 8, 1905, he was the son of Samuel and Bertha White Ellenberger and married Mayme Etherton in Peoria June 28, 1925.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother of Forest City; two son, Larry of Wheaton and Joe of Gridley; and two daughters, Mrs. Jean Gramm of Gridley and Mary Ann at home.
The body was taken to Forelich memorial home here where it will remain until 13:30 p.m. Sunday. Then it will be taken to lie is state until time of services at the Gridley Methodist church.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Allen R. Marrett officiating. Burial will be in the Gridley cemetery.
