Elisha Askew was the son of David (1745-1815) and Millicent Outlaw (1749- ) Askew of Isle of Wight CO, VA and then Bertie CO, NC. They had approximately 12 children.

Elisha married "Sarah", listed in his will as "Sally". They had the following children: George (b.1803), Lemuel (b.1802), David (1807-1880), Aaron (b.1805), James (b.1810), Caswell (1811-1860/62), Ashley and John. They may have had a daughter, name unknown.

Elisha is recorded living in 1811 in Stewart Co, TN as a juror and building a road with brother, Josiah, and William Outlaw. In 1819 he secured a Stewart CO (later Houston) license to operate a ferry across the Tennessee River. This was part of Wynn's Ferry Road, built by Thomas Wynn. This ferry, purchased lands, as well as a mill (w/ brother Josiah) appear to be family operations. When he died, he left 9 slaves to 8 sons.

He and his wife were originally buried at Grafried (originally Askew) Cemetery, Stewart CO (now Houston). However, they were probably relocated to Stockdale Cemetery by the TVA during construction of Kentucky Lake. At this time, no headstones with their names have been located.
