Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Anita S. Sonnier Amos, age 88, the former Anita Stelly, who passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 6:50 p.m. at her residence in Berwick.
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Brother Ray Marcal, of Solid Rock Church in Houma, will officiate at the services.
Musical selections will be Can You Hear Me, I Can Only Imagine, and Fire and Rain.
Ms. Amos was a native of Bosco, a resident of Berwick and a former resident of Port Sulphur. She was a licensed nurses aide having worked at Charity Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Survivors include one son, Loyton J. Sonnier and his wife, Lilly, of Carencro; two daughters, Irene Sonnier of Berwick and Mary "Jean" Sonnier of Youngsville; one step son, Ernest Amos, III; three step daughters, Anna Buras, Louisa Amos and Patty Amos; one sister, Nedia Thibodeaux and her husband, Thomas, of Duson; 14 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nathan J. Sonnier; her second husband, Ernest Amos, II; one infant son; her parents, Edward J. Stelly and the former Emily Touchet; two brothers, John Stelly and Larry Stelly; four sisters, Evelyn Stelly, Corrine Guidry, Isabelle Richard and Eugenia Venable; and one granddaughter, Lisa Francis McHaney.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro was in charge of arrangements.
