Caroline was the daughter of William & Lavina Andrews Brewer. She was only a few years old when her father passed away. Her mother married Isaac M. Phipps and she was raised in the home of her stepfather and mother.

Miss Brewer married James D. Adams, the son of William & Amelia Argo Adams. The couple were the parents of William and Charles Adams. Charles was their only child to live to adulthood. His children were Vera Mae, Lee Roy and Paul Adams.
