Mary Nell Brewer Bear, 96, the last of her family’s generation on both the Brewer and Bear families, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, in Richland Hills. She was born and raised in Nacogdoches, the fifth daughter of Arthur and Minnie Nama Powers Brewer. She attended SFA University until the beginning of the war, when she went to work for the civil service. Mary Nell moved to Crockett after World War II to work for Farmer’s Home Administration where she met and married Roland Hugh Bear, Sr. in 1950. She was a longtime member and volunteer at the First United Methodist Church, and Pythian Sisters where she served as Past Chief. Mary Nell, along with her sisters and friends, were avid quilters and in 2010, she moved to Richland Hills to be near her family following an illness.
She is preceded in death by husband, Roland Hugh Bear, Sr; parents, Nama and Arthur Brewer; sisters, Elsie Violet Barker and husband, Frank, Maxine Hammond and husband, L.J., Shirley Oleta Key and husband, Ed, Carol McBryde and husband, Forest; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Bear, John Bear and wife, Lucille, Aaron Bear and wife, Rebecca, Jim Bear and wife, Gladys, Jessie Bear and wife, Mildred, Ted Bear, Walter Bear and wife, Beulah, Fannie Berry and Annie Laurie Bear; nieces and nephews, Mary Frances Hobbs, Sue Truitt, Mary Jho Hammond, Patsy Barker, John Roland Bear, Danny Bear, James Ray Bear and Terry Bear.
