Ellen ‘Ella’ May (Rowell) Smith (1851-1917)
She was married to Harry Wellington Smith on Valentine’s Day in 1872 in Stowe, Vermont. They had one child, Mary L Smith, born in Cassey, Iowa in 1873. Their church was the First Unitarian Society.
She was a charter Member of 3 chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution: Swe-Kat-Si Chapter Ogdensburn, NY, 1896; Robert Gray Chapter in Hoquiam, WA ,1903; Sacajawea Chapter, Olympia, 1906. She was the mother in law of WA State Supreme Court Justice Jesse Bridges. Her revolutionary war ancestor, on which her membership is based, is Enoch Rowell of New Hampshire. She was also the great, great, great granddaughter of Joseph Marsh, (1726—1811), who served as colonel of militia and as a member of the Provincial Congress of New York 1776. He was elected lieutenant governor of Vermont 1778, member of the Board of War 1779 and represented Hartford in the Assembly. He was born in Lebanon, Conn. and died in Hartford, Vermont.
She and her husband are buried in Riverbank Cemetery, Stowe, Vermont.
