Her stated age in the 1900, 1920, 1930 censuses and in her obituary would indicate that Clara was born in 1873. However, she appeared on the 1870 census as a 2 year old and on the 1880 census as a 12 year old - indicating she was born in 1868.
According to Clara, her family moved from Pembroke, Washington Co., ME to Rochester, Strafford Co., NH in 1867, then to St. Charles, Winona Co., MN in 1869.
Her father, Mariner W. Garnett, a Drayman (today's truck driver), was killed in St Paul, MN in 1882. They were still in St. Charles, MN when the state census was taken in 1885.
Between 1885 & 1894 they moved to Lynchburg, Campbell Co., VA where her mother. Lois C. (nee Huckins) Garnett died in 1894.
Clara married David Nelson Hall on Dec 28, 1896 in Norfolk, VA. But they continued to live in Lynchburg until 1905 when they moved to Norfolk.
In 1939, she moved to Newport News, VA to live with her son, Roger James Hall. After a nine month illness, she died in the Elizabeth Buxton Hospital (now Bon Secours Mary Immaculate).
