The son of Reverend Thomas & Matilda (Gunter) Armstrong of Franklin Co VA, Henry Co TN and late of Johnson Co AR, Alexander married:
1) Mary O Carter on 2 Jan 1859; they divorced c1865.
2) Martha Jo Smith on 13 May 1866 in Prairie Co AR, the daughter of Julian & Mary Smith of Logan Co AR. Martha died 25 Oct 1896 in Aly, Yell Co AR.
3) Clarissa M Webb in 1909 on 10 Oct 1909 in Yell Co AR, the daughter of Solomon M & Julia A Webb ; they later separated.

Children with Mary:
1) Matilda Armstrong (b: 1860); may have died young.

Children with Martha:
1) Marietta Paralee Armstrong (1869-1880)
2) John Julian Armstrong (1871-1938); m. Susan Lenora "Nora" Barnes (1874-1962).
3) Aly Annie Alverda "Mammy" Armstrong (1876-1971), m: Elansing Lanson Rabjohn (1866-1915).
4) Roscoe H Armstrong (1881-aft 1900); no more info as yet.
5) Mattie Louvenia "Matt" Armstrong (1883-1980), m: Lemyal Arnold Sledge (1882-1957).

No children with Clara.

Alexander was a Civil War Veteran, serving in the Union Army from 30 Dec 1863 to 30 Jun 1865. After the war, he resumed farming. Conversations at family gatherings must have been very interesting, as at least two of his brothers had fought for the Confederacy.
