Buck Ray Akemon, 50, died Tuesday, March 1, 1988 at 1:27 p.m. in Jackson County Memorial Hospital, Altus, Oklahoma, after a brief illness. Military graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, March 4, at North Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Martin, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiating.

Burial was by Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors. The military funeral detail was from Fort Hood.

Mr. Akemon was born April 7, 1937 in Lewisburg, Indiana, the son of Garrett Akemon and Iola Isom Akemon. He married Nancy Leisure, January 16, 1964, in Wichita Falls.

Mr. Akemon entered the US Army in 1955 and served oversea tours of duty in Korea, Germany and Hawaii. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery. He retired from Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1978, after 23 years active service with the rank of First Sergeant.

He came to Wellington in 1979, was Deputy Sheriff from 1979 to 1980 and served as Chief Deputy for Collingsworth County from 1980 through 1984.

At the time of his death, he was operating the Phillips Service Station on Highway US 83 in Wellington, Texas.
