Sharp Funeral Home - Elinor Alongi, 79 of Carroll, died Friday morning, May 2, 2014 at her residence in Carroll.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll. Officiating will be Reverend Cindy Johnson. Pianist will be Jan Potthoff. Casket Bearers will be: Kent Middendorf, Brian Hulten, Mick Riesberg, Mark Sexton, Paul McGowan, and Matt Collison. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. Tuesday where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until time of the service.
Born on October 9, 1934 at Marseilles, Illinois, Elinor Laurena was the daughter of Stanley and Ethelinda (Thompson) Holm. At a young age following the passing of her mother she lived with her aunt Laurena Larson and attended school in Rockford, Illinois, graduating from East Rockford High School.
On October 10, 1953 she married Phil Alongi at Rockford, Illinois. The couple resided in Rockford where Phil was employed at Barber Colman. The couple later moved to Morrison, Illinois and Phil worked for General Electric and in 1973 Phil’s job with GE brought them to the Carroll Community. Elinor was a devoted wife, mother, and in her spare time enjoyed attending her coffee group. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll and was a member of the Carroll Moose Lodge.
Elinor is survived by her husband Phil of Carroll; her sons: Allan Alongi and wife Debbie of Clarendon Hills, IL and Scott Alongi and wife Melissa of Des Moines; her grandchildren: Alexandra Alongi, Collin Minear, Sofia Alongi, and Lilliana Alongi; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Margaret Lester of Scottsdale, AZ, Joseph Alongi of Rockford, IL, and Jack (Retha) Alongi of Rockford, IL; her special cousin whom she spent her childhood with, Betty Branca of Rockford, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Elinor was preceded in death by her parents; and her step brother, Jack Dagget.
