Loren was the son of John and Amberzine East. He married Alice Atkinson December 23, 1915. To Loren and Alice were born two children: Lorene and Glen.
Loren and his wife went to their farm that Sunday evening so that Loren could do the last of the irrigating for the year. Alice was waiting in their car, when just before 9 pm. a man by the name of Paschall Boyer came by and saw the car in the field. He approached Mrs. East and shot her while she are in the automobile. He then saw Mr. East and ran to him about 60 feet away and shot him also. Both Loren and Alice died on their farm that evening. Boyer had earlier shot a Mrs. Nelson and it is said that Boyer might have thought that Mrs. East had seen him dump the body near the cemetery. The East Farm is directly across from the old Bountiful Cemetery.
Boyer was convicted of the crime of killing Mrs. Nelson, (he was not tried for the other three killings) but later proved to be insane and was sent to the Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah, Jan. 27, 1937. He died in the Hospital Aug. 9, 1937 of a coronary occlusion.
Lorene and Glen were raised by Alice's sister Winnie Whitecar and her husband.
