SEDALIA — Dell G. Adkins, 74, of Sedalia, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born October 5, 1939, in Kansas City, KS, a son of the late Dell Gilmore Adkins and Genevieve Rose (Schuber) Adkins. He was married to Vickie Lee, who preceded him in death.
Dell served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He was Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Church. Dell was a staunch Republican and had an independent personality. He was a voracious reader and great cook, sometimes gourmet.
He is survived by four siblings, Thomas Adkins (Doris), of Cleveland, Tim Dale, of Sedalia, Mary Ellen McCarthy (Michael) and Julia Dale, all of San Antonio, TX; a sister-in-law, Donna Adkins, of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Adkins.
Visitation will be 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel followed by a 10 a.m. graveside service at Calvary Cemetery with Father Mark Miller officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at graveside.
