James Nelson Akers died June 19, 1937 at his home at Amaranth. A son of Job and Sarah (Barton) Akers, he was born Jan. 14, 1849, in Monroe Township and united in marriage with Sarah Mason. His second wife was Sophia Defenbaugh, who also preceded him in death. He was married a third time to Eveline Kennard, who survives.
Three daughters and two sons also survive: Mrs. Minnie Wigfield of Artemas; Mrs. Ethel Hixson of Bedford; Mrs. Marshall Seigle of Amaranth; Earl of Crystal Springs and John of Akron, O.; also four brothers and four sisters: Mahlon Akers and Mrs. Laura Morris of Clearville; Ottis and William of Everett; George of Cherokee, Iowa; Mrs. Anna McGee of Tyrone; Mrs. Belle Crouse of Metamore, O.; Mrs. Matilda Vogel of Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Shreve's Chapel by Rev. George W. Frownfelter and interment made in the adjoining cemetery in charge of Mortician Maust.
