FLORENCE, SC — Louis Carroll Addison, 76, of Florence died Saturday, May 24, 2008, in a Florence health care facility after an illness.
Mr. Addison was born in Tarpon Springs, FL, a son of the late Ludie Burean and Maud Prevatte Addison.
He graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in Central with a Masters in Science Management.
He retired from Southern Bell in 1987, after 30 years of employment.
He retired as a Brigadier General from the US Army in 1991, after 31 years of service, having served during the Korean conflict.
He was a member of Dawsey United Methodist Church, President of the SC National Guard Scholarship Foundation, President of the Field Artillery Society, Chairman of the Board of the SC Telco Federal Credit Union, President of the Florence Council of Telephone Pioneers, Chairman of the Board of the House of Hope, Chairman of the Board for the Florence County Disability Foundation and a member of the Pee Dee Kiwanis Club. He was awarded the Silver Crescent by Gov. Mark Sanford in January 2008.
Surviving are his wife, who he married April 3, 1954, Janie Margaret Eddings Addison of the home; sons, Louis C. "Bud" Addison Jr (Kathi) of Florence and David Mark Addison (Janice) of Columbia; daughters, Teresa Brewington (Earl) of Greenwood and Linda Groff of Florence; sister, Blanche Culpepper of Saint Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Martha Anne Addison, Daniel Addison Groff, Lauren Ashley Addison, Georgia McKeever Cole and Benjamin Griffin Cole; a great-grandchild Andrew Cash Brewington.

Funeral services were held at 10 am Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Dawsey United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Florence National Cemetery with full military honors, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
