GREENSBORO, NC Mr. Robert Vernon Allen, 82, passed away in the early morning hours of December 4, 2009, at Beacon Place.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Monday, December 7, at George Brothers Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Mark Walters officiating. Burial followed the service at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

Robert served his country as an S1 in the US Navy.

He was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Randleman for 11 years, was a member at Living Waters Baptist church, was a man "who never met a stranger", and was friendly to everyone.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys Allen; son, Kenneth L. Allen (Connie) of California; son, Danny L. Allen (Robin) of Jamestown; daughter, Sandra A. Fields of Liberty; sister Margaret Pegues (Henry) of Cheraw, SC; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
