♫Erinnerung an unsere gefallenen Soldaten in Afghanistan♫
Josef Otto Kronawitter was born in Untergriesbach near Passau/Danube, a beautiful countryside that I know well enough from many visits to dear friends living there. His hometown being a small town only, everybody knew and loved Josef.
His family describes him as a young and very hard-working man who always had a smile on his face, always lifting up the spirits of those who knew and loved him.
After school, Josef made an professional education as a carpenter, he loved the woods and would always head for them, to walk and get new inspiration. He loved his hometown, the wonderful very good people there, from the bottom of his heart, just as much as he loved his parents, sister, grandmother and his girlfriend with whom he planned to start a family after coming back from Afghanistan.
In 2004, Josef decided to re-up to the military service for 8 years, and he joined the Mountain pioneer bataillon at Ingolstadt.
In March he was sent to Afghanistan. On April 15, the Eagle IV himself and several other soldiers were riding was attacked probably with a bazooka. Josef Otto, aged only 24, and two other soldiers sadly lost their lives, 5 others were seriously injured.
My heart goes out to his family, and especially the young woman he so loved, who is expecting their first child, a baby who will never have the chance to meet that wonderful dad, but I trust that everybody will tell the child one day what a very brave young man he really was.
