Betty Jo Barber, 90, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Glen Carr Memory Unit in Derby.

She was born Sept. 2, 1923 to Frank Fred and Marie (McAdoo) Fager in Stevens County.

She married Carl Everett Barber on Oct. 20, 1946.

She later attended nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. After graduation she joined the Army Nurse Corp where she served in the European theatre.

She worked at the Hugoton hospital part time for almost 40 years.

She was active in the First Christian Church.

Survivors include daughters, Charlotte DeMotte and husband Don of Lenexa and Virginia Evans and husband Gerald of Derby; grandchildren: Cynthia Herndon Harris, Jason DeMotte and Scott DeMotte; granddaughter-in-law Melanie Herndon; and step-granddaughters, Chesiree Williams and Chelsea Counter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Lee and Burl Fager; sister, Beverly Martin; and grandson, Joe Herndon.

β€’ Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16 at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Minister Heath Kelley presiding.

Burial will follow in the Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Encouragement Ministry or the donor's choice.
