Television Producer. He was a creative force behind many popular TV programs, notably "The Untouchables", "The Fugitive" and "Cannon". Following service in the US Army during World War II, (he was an announcer with Armed Forces Radio overseas), Armer earned a bachelor's degree in Speech and Drama from Stanford University, and later attained a master's in Theatre Arts from UCLA. Upon graduation in 1947, he worked as a radio announcer in San Jose, before returning to Los Angeles where he was employed with an advertising agency; this led to his introduction to television as a director and narrator of commercials. He co-develop (along with Walter Grauman) the talent show "Lights, Camera, Action!" in 1949, and moved onto Twentieth Century Fox during the mid-1950s, where he produced the programs "My Friend Flicka" (1956), "Broken Arrow" (1956 to 1958) and "Man Without a Gun" (1957 to 1959). His collaboration with Quinn Martin during the 1960s and 1970s resulted in a string of successful TV series, among them "The Untouchables", "The Fugitive", "The Invaders" and "Cannon". Armer was the winner of an Edgar Allan Poe Award for "The Fugitive" in 1965, and was recipient of an Emmy Award for "The Fugitive" in 1966. He later served as a professor for 20 years at Cal State University Northridge. He died from colon cancer. (bio by: C.S.)
