Graveside services for John Edward Ballard, 70, of Tahlequah, will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 15, 1993, at Park Hill Cemetery with Reverend Travis Bryan officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Mr. Ballard was born June 26, 1923, in Tahlequah, the son of Miller and Dolly (Carroll) Ballard, and he died Sunday, September 12, 1993, at the Tahlequah City Hospital. A life-long Cherokee County resident, he grew up near Cookson. From 1947 to 1949, he served in the United States Army. He was a cement finisher and carpenter, and helped build Davis Nursing Home. He also worked in the maintenance department at Davis Nursing Home for ten years before his retirement in 1974.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Delphene Ballard, Lavada Bell Garner and Deloris Parks, and one grandson, Shane Robinson. He is survived by five daughters, Laraina Eden of Tahlequah, Anna James of Catoosa, Barbara Barnes of Hulbert, Rosa "Wendy" Ballard of Tahlequah, and Deborah Hijazi of Tahlequah; three sons, Johnny Ballard of Tulsa, Miller Ballard of Cordell, and Alva Ballard of Decatur, Arkansas; five sisters, Berniece Julian of Tahlequah, Beatrice Lyons of Duncan, Christine Tucker of Wichita, Kansas, Alice Bettes of Des Moines, Iowa, Barbara Hutchinson of Drexel, Missouri; and the mother of his children, Kathy Calico of Tahlequah; 20 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many other relatives, friends and loved ones.
