Gregory Michael Beaudet, 22, died suddenly on Friday, August 28, 2009. He was born in Niskayuna on December 17, 1986 and was a 2005 graduate of Shaker High School. From 2006-2009, he was enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) in the Persian Gulf as a search and rescue (SAR) swimmer with his unit, Helicopter Antisubmarine Squad 2 (HS2). Greg was a member of Boy Scout Troop 162, where he achieved the rank of Life Scout and was a BSA lifeguard. He was an excellent swimmer and served as a lifeguard at the Colonie Town Pool. He was an avid and talented sport rock climber, who spent his free time at AIR. He climbed extensively with his brother, Dan and his friends, including trips to the Shawangunk Mountains, Hueco Tanks, and Joshua Tree National Park. He was happiest when tackling a difficult and complex climbing problem, and when teaching others to climb. He also enjoyed snowboarding. Greg is the beloved son of Claudia M. Woods Beaudet (Michael Straniere) and Francis X. (Chip) Beaudet. He is the devoted brother and best friend to Daniel. He is the loving grandson of Mary Woods, Joseph and Virginia Woods, and Thomas Beaudet. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Theresa Beaudet. Also surviving are his many aunts, uncles; cousins; dear friends; and neighbors who will miss his optimism and laughter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gregory's memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org
