Roger William Adams, 52, of Alton, died at 9:14 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at St. Louis University Hospital.
He was born Feb. 8, 1959, and was the son of the late Robert and Martha (Schermerhorn) Adams.
Roger's outgoing personality and kindness to everyone he met was his most remarkable trait. His generosity was only exceeded by his compassion for others. Roger was especially sensitive to the needs of others and was always there to help in any way he could. Roger's dedication and strength were evident by his 27 years clean and sober up to and including the day of his death. He will be fondly remembered for his work in the community and being a sponsor of members in AA. Even in death, he gave life to three local recipients through donation of his vital organs.
Roger is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Jeanne (Thomas) Gill of Godfrey, Dan Adams of Tucson, Ariz., Jan Adams of St. Louis, George Adams of Grafton, Carl Adams of Kapolei, Hawaii; Eleanor (Steve) Harris of Stilwell, Kan., Alice Boulds of Bethalto, Joe (Margaret) Adams of Brighton; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Peipert.
In celebration of Roger's life, a visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Private funeral services will be held.
