Racing driver. Vittorio Brambilla was born in Monza, Italy, and began racing motorcycles in 1957, winning the Italian national 175cc title the following year. He raced karts and became a mechanic for his brother Tino. By 1968 he had bought himself into Formula 3 and had won the Italian title by 1972. He won several Formula 2 races then in 1974 bought his way into Formula 1 with the March factory team. He famously won his only Grand Prix in 1975 at a rain soaked Austrian GP when he crossed the winning line, waiving his hands at the crowd and spun his car, damaging it's nose. He spent the next two years with Surtees but regularly overdrove the car and suffered a series of accidents and mechanical retirements. He suffered serious head injuries in a multiple pileup at Monza in 1978, and drove briefly for Alfa Romeo before retiring in 1980. He died at the age of 63 whilst mowing his lawn.
