ECKHART — John R. Hughes Jr., 60, of Eckhart, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 15, 1951, in Cumberland, he is the son of John R. Hughes Sr. and Shirley Odella Sandvich.
John was an Addictions Counselor with the State of Maryland and formerly worked in Michigan.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are his children, Joshua J. Hughes and wife Ellen, of Charles Town, W.Va., Jennessa Hughes, of Winchester, Va., and Marci Dare and husband Don, of Salisbury, Pa.; three grandchildren, Wyatt Dare, Addisyn and Braxton Hughes; and an ex-wife, Kathy Ickes Hughes, of Salisbury, Pa. Also surviving are a sister, Karen Ritchie, of Frostburg and two nieces, Jennifer Price and Denise Murphy.
Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Durst Funeral Home P.A. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
John will be cremated after the funeral service in accordance with his wishes; his cremains will be interred in the Mount Savage United Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Home Hospice, PO Box 539, Cumberland, MD 21502.
