Richard was the son of Omer and Laura Ray. He graduated from Granger High School in 1943 and served in the military in WW2 as a Signalman 3rd Class Petty Officer.. He married Frances Root in 1953. He was a farmer in the Granger area. They had four children: Laura, Linda, Marilyn and David.
