Harry Bosma, age 91, of Orange City, formerly of Hospers, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013, in rural Hospers. He went to heaven, while enjoying helping combine the harvest.

Harry was born on April 20, 1922, on a farm near Ashton, the son of Ike and Elizabeth (Vander Veen) Bosma. Until the age of twelve, he was raised on a farm by Sanborn, where he attended the Sanborn Christian School. His family then moved to a farm by Hospers, and he graduated from the Hospers Christian School.

On February 15, 1945, he married Hermina Catherine Rens in rural Hospers. They farmed at Hospers until 1985, when they moved into town. She passed away on November 18, 2008, in Orange City, after more than 63 years of marriage.

In September of this year, he became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.

Mr. Bosma was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory. He also was a member of the boards of directors of the Hospers Christian School, Western Christian High School in Hull, and the Farmers Co-operative in Hospers.

He thoroughly enjoyed farming, and he liked to golf and bowl.

Survivors include two daughters, Ardith, and her husband, Mark Altena, of Sioux Center; and Jolene Kuiken, of Orange City; three sons and their wives, Larry and Nancy Bosma, Dave and Deets Bosma, and Brad and Gretchen Bosma, all of Hospers; nineteen grandchildren, Rick (Cindy) Altena, Jeff (Kris) Altena, Angela (Greg) Jansma, and Bryan Altena; Julie (Steve) Vis, Kristi (Tre) Thierry, and Brent (Michelle) Kuiken; Natalie (Josh) Sandbulte, Mike (Jenn) Bosma, and Kevin (Kim) Bosma; Beau (Erin) Bosma, Megan (Chris) Begeman, Troy (Laura) Bosma, Austin (Jaclyn) Bosma, and Tara Bosma; and Janell (Ben) Christians, Kim (Brady) Goslinga, Brady Bosma, and Chris Bosma; 23 great-grandchildren, Alexa, Emalee, and Jordin Altena; Drew, Aubyn, and Hayden Jansma; Cody, Joslyn, Cambrie, and Trenton Vis; Olivia, Hallie, Isabella, and Claire Sandbulte; Malia and Hayes Bosma; Clayton, Braeden, and Dylan Bosma; Avery and Levi Begeman; Jackson Bosma; and Cade Goslinga; a brother, Joe Bosma; three sisters, Betty Pekelder, Sophia Lemasurier, and Lorraine Muilenburg; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Bosma and Erv Bosma; and seven sisters, Grace Boer, Winnie Blom, Sadie Vander Weide, Clara Roos, Jeanette Bosch, Ruth Crawford, and Margaret Wallick.
