ELMWOOD — Leonard F. Berger, age 78 of Elmwood, died on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Leonard was born on November 19, 1927, the son of Frank and Martha (Kohlman) Berger in the Maxville area of Buffalo County. He grew up in that area until 1943, when he moved to Dunn County with his family. He married Marian Smith June 16, 1952. After marriage they lived in Kenosha until 1958, when they moved to the Downsville-Menomonie area. Leonard worked as a self-employed carpenter and worked around the area for many years. The last few years Marian and Leonard mowed lawns at the Lower Weston and Rose Hill Cemeteries.

Leonard is survived by three daughters, Joan (Bernard) Beissel of Hampton, Minn., Linda (Loren) Petrash and Brenda (Duane) Kraft, both of Lakeville, Minn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion (Paul) Radle of Elmwood; three brothers, Clarence (Isabel) of Eau Claire, James (Maxine) of Menomonie and Lorin (Roberta) of Hartford; many nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marian on January 12, 2006; a brother, Francis and a sister Florence Hurlburt.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. Rev. Ambrose Blenker will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Downsville.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Leonard’s name to the American Cancer Society.
