Patricia (Gillespie) Abendroth

Age 70, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at the Hospice at Cherry Meadows. Pat was born on June 27, 1931 in Appleton, daughter of the late Lee and Clara (Kopelke) Gillespie.
Pat graduated from Appleton High School and received a Degree in Education from Oshkosh State University. In the 1950’s and early 1960’s, she taught elementary school grades Kindergarten through 8 in Center Valley. On August 8, 1957, she married Floyd Abendroth; he survives. After her teaching days she worked for the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program through Outagamie County. She was a longtime and faithful member of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, and was also an avid support of the Outagamie County Humane Society and volunteered her time weekly to the St. Vincent de Paul program. Many will remember Pat as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Pat’s favorite pastimes included spoiling her grandsons, cooking, gardening and spending as much time as possible traveling, especially to California.

She is survived by her husband of forty-four years; Floyd Abendroth of Appleton; five children: Julie (Fred Yankowski) Abendroth of Batavia, Illinois; Randall (Kathleen) Abendroth of Madison; James (Rebecca Kent) Abendroth of Appleton; Terry Abendroth of Campbell, California; Paul Abendroth of Appleton; three grandsons: Charles and James Yankowski and Andrew Abendroth; a brother: Ralph (Lee) Gillespie of Escanaba, Michigan; five sisters-in-law: Betty Kohl, Mary Abendroth, Eunice Abendroth, Florence Popp, and Ruth (Bud) Puls, all of Appleton; and a cousin and dear friend Alice Taylor of Appleton. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, and by a brother Robert (Rochelle) Gillespie.

Funeral services for Pat will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 11:30 a.m. at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 East Florida Avenue in Appleton with Rev. Joel Zank officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the services.
