OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)
Ronald Lester Baker, 72, of 230 Davis Street, Lagro, Indiana died Friday, March 4, 2005 at 11:30 pm at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on April 30, 1932 in Lagro, Indiana to Mike and Dollie (Bitzel) Baker. He married Maxine James in Las Cruces, New Mexico on April 27, 1954.

He graduated from Lagro High School in 1950 and retired from Celotex in Lagro in 1996 after 46 years. He was a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, the Wabash Moose Lodge, and the Lagro American Legion. He was longtime owner of Baker & Sons Auto Sales in Lagro. He was an avid sports fan, loved to camp, fish, mushroom hunt, travel, and spend time with his family.

He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Baker of Lagro; two sons, Ron (Mandy) Baker of Maricopa, Arizona, and Rick Baker of Wabash; daughter, Robbi (Jeff) LaSalle of Wabash; five grandsons, Brent (Allison) Baker of Indianapolis, Ryan Baker of Wabash, Calen Baker serving on the USS Chancellorsville in the Navy, Gerad Baker of Maricopa, and Justin Baker of Maricopa; three granddaughters, Megan Baker of Indianapolis, Mandy VanLeeuwen of Bloomington, and Mandie Young of Houma, Louisianna; three great-grandchildren, Allison and Austin VanLeeuwen of Bloomington and Lily Young of Houma, Louisianna; two brothers, Michael W. Baker of Wabash and Robert L. Baker of Lagro; and a sister, Jenice Hall of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his son, Rory, who died in 1966, and two sisters, Maxine Landis and Martha Patton.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 10:30am. Rev. Robert Armstrong will officiate. Friends may call from 2-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are Lagro Community Library or Lagro Volunteer Fire Department.
