Born Aug. 31, 1920, in Goshen County to Earl and Anna Marcum Baker, he graduated from Lingle High School and earned a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from the University of Wyoming.
As an Air Force captain stationed in England, he flew more than 30 missions in World War II. He married Galen J. Seibel on June 7, 1951, at Jackson Lake.
From 1945 to 1968, Mr. Baker taught vocational agriculture and farmed and ranched in Goshen County. He began work in 1966 as a UW county agriculture extension agent, serving in Sheridan County from 1970 to 1985.
UW appointed him Sheridan/Johnson County horticulturist in 1985, a position he held until his death.
He was a member of American Legion, Big Horn Lions Club, Masons, American Association of Retired Persons, and UW fraternal organizations. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known for his love of people and nature.
A brother, Stanley, and a daughter, Lori, Preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, four children, Jerry Baker and Jody Nipps, both of Sheridan, Julie Baker, Buffalo, and Kim Scherry, Big Horn; his mother of Richland, Wash.; four brothers and sisters, Wilbur Baker, Arlington, Wash., Wilma Abbott, Newport, Wash., Johnnie Baker, Lingle, and Ann Mae Dyken, Richland; and four granddaughters.
Services are 10 am Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Ted Tromble officiating, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Big Horn.
Memorials may benefit Big Horn Lions Club, Big Horn Fire Department, or Wyoming Society for Crippled Children in care of Rose Marie Madia, First Interstate Bank of Sheridan. Arrangement are with Champion Funeral Home.
