A Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16 at First Lutheran Churh in Sauk Centre for Rev. William J. Altmann who died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. William Altmann was born on Aug. 10, 1933, in Marshfield, Wis, to Carl and Edma (Ebert) Altmann. He was a graduate of Marshfield High School, received a bachelor of arts degree in 1955 from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and a bachelor of divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. On June 2, 1956, he married Janet Heiken near Monticello, Iowa. Pastor Altmann served his internship at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN and then served in parish ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno, S.D., Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, MN, Resurrection Lutheran Church in New Berlin, Wis, and First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. He retired in August of 1995. The most important things in his life were faith and family and he also enjoyed fishing, traveling and looking at scener. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and a former member of the Sauk Centre
Lions Club. He also had served two terms on the Sauk Centre School Board. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Janet Altmann of Sauk Centre; two sons, Phillip (Cindy) Altmann of Buffalo, Gary (Gina) Altmann of Eden Prairie; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Nick, David and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Altmann; and son, Paul Altmann. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Sauk Centre.
