Memorial services for Donald Hemming, age 73 of rural Bertha, was held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertha with Reverend Blake Rickbeil presiding. Don passed away at his home last week. Donald William Hemming was born on April 23, 1932 to Gust and Maria (Rousa) Hemming at New York Mills, MN. He joined the Army on November 12, 1952 and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1953. He was united in marriage to Donna Jean Hadley on September 7, 1954. Don lived his lifetime farming in the rural Bertha area. He enjoyed gambling, especially playing poker, rolling dice and shooting pool. He also enjoyed collecting things, telling jokes, dancing and wheeling & dealing ("dollar everything two dollar!") Don was preceded in death by his parents Gust and Maria; daughters Wendy and Vickie; grandson Jeremy; and brothers Earl, Stanley, Walter, David and Earnie. He is survived by daughters Dawn of California, Lori of Hewitt, Jill of Kansas, and Jean of St. Paul; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; brothers Marvin of Bertha and Aale of Missouri; and sisters Shirley of Texas and Evelyn of Missouri. He is also survived by his ex-wife and mother of their children Donna Hemming. Honorary pallbearers are Mark VanUnen, Brian VanUnen, Tracey VanUnen, Michell VanUnen, Alicia Rich and Derek Ostrowski. Interment of ashes was in the Bonar Cemetery at rural Bertha.
