Was Well Toward Century Mark

Funeral services for Mrs. Nathan Burgess who died at Gary, Ind., were held at the local Methodist church, of which church she had been a member for forty years, Thursday afternoon of last week, Rev. Kountz, of Glenville, Minn., officiating. Interment was in the Granger Cemetery south of town. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers, Vernon Burgess, Wm. R. Coughlin, Gusta Burgess, Ralph Burgess, Byron Burgess, Ralph Burgess, Byron Burgess and Edson Burgess.

The maiden name of the deceased was Abbigail Julia Bossout [sic], born at Carthage, N.Y., January 4th, 1833. She died on February 11th, 1924, and was therefore past 91 years old. In 1854 she was married to Nathaniel Burgess at Carthage. They moved to Ontario, Canada, and then to Minnesota and this locality in 1861. They lived on a farm south of town and then in the village. About 23 years ago they moved to Richville, where Mr. Burgess died in 1911. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter at Gary, Ind.

She was the mother of six children, three of whom are living. They are: William J. Burgess, LeSueur Center; Henry Burgess, Glenville, Minn.; Elizabeth Burgess Palmer, Gary, Ind. In addition to grandchildren there are seven great grandchildren.

Many old friends regret to hear of the passing of this estimable pioneer woman who was among the earlier settlers of Le Sueur county and who, like so many of them, was one of a most substantial character and who did much to help in the earlier development of this community. Although not a resident here for some years, she had by no means been forgotten by friends and acquaintances of an earlier day.
