A native of Massachusetts, Adams enlisted in the Army in 1912 as a private. He retired as a colonel in 1948.
In World War I, Adams was stationed in France. During the second World War, he was in England and saw action at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He received the Medal of Honor from King George of England for his work in antiaircraft gunnery in the war.
He also held the Bronze Star and theCroix de Guerre.
In 1940-41, Adams was battalion commander in old Camp Callen in San Diego.
He was a member of the La Jolla Lodge 518, F&AM, a Shrine Temple in Delaware, and the La Jolla Congregational Church.
Surviving are his widow, Helen, a son, Carl R. Jr., both of La Jolla; a daughter; two sisters, and three grandchildren.
