Joy Harlan Cliburn was born January 31, 1937 in Martinsville, MS, to the late Benjamin Louis (B.L.) and Mildred Wilson Harlan. She is survived by her husband, Bennett L. (Roy) Cliburn, son Perry Harlan Cliburn (Nancy) of Long Grove, Illinois; daughter Melodi Cliburn Dingus (Brad) of Mansfield, Texas; Daughter-in-Law Vicki Cliburn Hull (Cary) of Buford, Georgia; Brother John E. Harlan (Sallie) of Portland, Tennessee; her grandchildren Craig Cliburn, Rachel Cliburn, Caroline Cliburn, all of Long Grove, IL. Chandler Cliburn, Elissa Dingus, Annalise Dingus, and Lathan Dingus all of Mansfield, Texas; Joshua Cliburn, Joel Cliburn, Jeremiah Cliburn, and Abigail Hull all of Buford Georgia. She was predeceased by her son, Kirk Bennett Cliburn.

Mrs. Cliburn was an active and gifted musician from her youth, and was both a talented pianist and vocalist. She served as minister of music at several churches including First Baptist Church of Meadville, MS. and First Baptist Church of Westwego, Louisiana. She started and organized senior choirs at both Ridgecrest Baptist Church (Jackson, MS), and First Baptist Church Clinton (The Joy Makers!)

Mrs. Cliburn was a devoted wife (55 years) to her one and only childhood sweetheart, Roy. She was the ever present Mom who relentlessly doted on her children and grandchildren. Her kind, giving heart and hospitality was evident to everyone that knew her. From her grandchildren, to her Aunts, Bernita Harlan, and LeDelle Harlan Ray, to anyone she knew in need, she was always quick to open her home to lend a helping hand, a friendly smile, and encouraging words from the LORD.

Her Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Clinton, from 6 to 8 PM Thursday July 21st, and Friday July 22nd, from 9 AM until the 10:00 AM service. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Baptist Church (Mrs. Cliburn's 'home' church) Cemetery, Hazlehurst, MS. Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to the Baptist Children's Village at P.O. Box 27, Clinton MS 39060-0027 or via online at www.baptistchildrensvillage.com.
