Rites Tuesday for Durant MSU student

Funeral services for John William Ammons, 19 year old student at Mississippi State University, were held Tuesday at 10:30 at First Baptist Church in Durant. Burial was in Mizpah Cemetery with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Young Ammons died suddenly at the university Sunday. The cause of his death has not yet been determined.

Officiating at the funeral was the Rev. Durrel Makamson, assisted by the Rev. Smith Whiteside.

A sophomore at the university, Mr. Ammons was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Durant High School and a member of the Durant football team.

Born in Durant, he was the son of Mrs. Vicy Sproles Ammons and the late John Calvin Ammons.

Besides his mother, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Minnie Ola Anthony of Tallahassee, Florida.

Pallbearers were Bill McKenzie, Mike Dorsett, Jerry Read, Jim Summerhill, Bobby Newsom, Gebe Terry, Allen Clements, and Tommy Humphreys.

Honorary pallbearers were all members of his SAE fraternity; all members of the senior class of Durant High, 1968; and members of the Durant Tigers of 1967-1968
