William Jefferson Ables was born on August 20th, 1837 in Alabama. William married Emrine T. Everett at an unknown date and had at least four children. When the war came, William decided to serve the South. He enlisted on May 16th, 1861 in Company F (the 'Yell Riflemen'). This unit fought under the great General Patrick Cleburne, and was engaged heavily in about every major battle in their theater. They fought at Shiloh, Chickamauga, Atlanta, and Franklin just to name a few.
William was one of the lucky ones that survived the intense fighting, and he returned home after the war. William eventually settled in Boone County, Arkansas where he died on Febraury 14th, 1918.
