MILLERSTOWN - Robert K. Ackard, 81 years of age, went home to be with his Lord on Dec. 27, 2010.
Bob was born on Jan. 2, 1929. He was proud of his Naval Service from 1948-52. He returned to Millerstown where he was employed at R.C. Savercool, Co. In 1963 he began a career with the U.S. Defense Department until his retirement in 1988.
He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 59 years, Gladys M. (Magee), a daughter Karen Fisher and husband Robert, two sons Michael D. and wife Amy and Alan K. and wife Susan, step-mother Olive Ackard, half-brother Donald Ackard and wife Dorothy, half-sister Joanne Hubbert and husband Park, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Bob loved his family, church and community and served devotedly.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at the Millerstown United Methodist Church. A public viewing will be held from 9-10:45AM with a celebration service at 11AM. Reverend Patricia Woolever will officiate. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Millerstown United Methodist Church Building Fund, 702 East Sunbury Street, Millerstown, PA 17062 or to the Millerstown Senior Center, 99 Greenwood Drive, Millerstown, PA 17062.
