D. M. Ealy, aged 85, died Friday July 6, 1923, at the home of Ben Smith in Portales.
Mr. Ealy was one of the oldest settlers of Roosevelt county, and he was known to all as Uncle Ealy. For a number of years he made his home with Flue Anderson, prior to Mr. Anderson's leaving for California. Since that time he has been visiting in Slaton, Texas, and only came in a few days before his death.
Mr. Ealy was a brother-in-law of Ben Smith, his wife having died a numnber of years ago.
Funeral was held at the Bethel cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest.

Birthday was 1838, born in Monroe Co. IN. according to his TX pension application. Mr. Ealy served with Co. F, 37th TX Cavalry, Terrell's Reg. He was discharged in 1865 in Navarro TX. no record was found of his service, but his
pension was granted by the state of Texas.
